Fish Survey Starting on 20 JUne

Lake Underwood Nimrod Club Members,

On Monday June 10th, Princeton Hydro will begin carrying out a several day fishery survey on Lake Underwood. This work is related to the fishery survey that was conducted last fall.  The data from this survey and the fall survey will be used to inform lake management decisions moving forward. The survey will be conducted using two primary methods of capture, netting and electrofishing. To avoid any problems with either deployed Princeton Hydro gear or member property, while on the lake please steer clear of marker buoys as there are likely nets or rope below. Some nets may be marked by two buoys in a straight line. In that case it’s advisable to avoid steering watercraft between the marker buoys as it could result in damage to the nets and/or your boat motors/fishing gear.

In addition, as mentioned above, Princeton Hydro personnel will also be performing electrofishing in the shoreline shallower water. We ask that members refrain from approaching the Princeton Hydro vessel while it is fishing so that safety can be maintained for Princeton Hydro staff and club members, and allow the survey work to proceed efficiently while it is conducted.

Barring adverse weather conditions, completion of the survey will occur on Wednesday June 12th after which normal boating and fishing activities can resume on the lake.

Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Clubhouse Painting Project

Lake Underwood Nimrod Club Members,

A clubhouse painting project is being planned and your assistance is requested. We were unable to find a professional painter to paint the upstairs of the clubhouse. Instead Barbara Mushel and Kirk Moir have agreed to take the lead for the project. Instead of hiring painters, we are looking for members that could make a firm commitment to be at the lake on one or more of the proposed project dates. These dates are; Saturday, April 27th for clearing all furniture from bedrooms and painting ceilings in bedrooms and hallway. Prep work, including removal of old chipped paint where necessary, blocking holes in walls, removing all nails and hooks driven into the bedroom  walls over the years to hang clothes on and updating electrical fixtures and wiring will be done prior to this date. New clothes hook racks will be installed in the bedrooms similar to the one recently installed in the clubhouse first floor.
Tuesday, April 30 and Wednesday, May 1 to paint walls and finish ceilings if necessary. We’re hoping some of our retired members will show up for these dates, but all members are welcome. As an incentive we’ll provide lunch and beverages to all who participate. It could be two fun days with some work, fellowship, laughs and refreshments.
Saturday, May 4th to finish any remaining painting.
In order to develop a detailed work plan and have adequate supplies on hand for all participants we need firm commitments for any of the  proposed work dates you can make. Starting time for all dates will be 9AM. Interested members are asked to email Barb Mushel at bmushe01@gmail.com or Kirk Moir at moirkirk@gmail.com as soon as possible.
Thanks for all you do to support the Lake Underwood Nimrod Club.

Fish Survey

Princeton Hydro is scheduled to perform our three-day fish survey on October 15th-17th.  We ask that folks stay off the lake during those three days to give the survey team unobstructed access.

Thanks,
Mike Erk

Bullhead Stocking

About 325 healthy bullheads were stocked at Lake Underwood this week.  This should help balance our fishery.  Some of the bullheads were in the 11″-12″ range, so it’s important to release any bullheads that might be caught.

Mower for the Dam

Cheryl graciously donated a used lawn mower to LUNC for mowing the dam.  It has been tuned up, gassed up, and is stored in the shed at the dam for anyone to use to mow the dam.  Mowing will be needed all summer long.  Thanks Cheryl!
